The company started in 1989 as a division of Cast and specialises in shortsea and inland waterways container transport. When CP SHIPS withdrew from the operation in july 2003 the MBZ (Port Authority) decided, through an affiliate, FCA, to consolidate and expand the business by re-branding into PortConnect nv.
The Company focuses on feeder and barge activities in the Hamburg-Le Havre range. Barges cover all inland depots in Belgium.
The company aims to provide a first-class service to large shipping companies and terminal operators. Flexible feeder vessels and barges connect the Port of Zeebrugge with neighbouring ports and the hinterland.
Chartered feeder vessels operate on shortsea routes between Zeebrugge and neigbouring ports.
Two estuary vessels (M/V Deseo & M/V Tripoli) and one barge (M/V Were Di) are connecting the Zeebrugge and Antwerp container terminals on a daily basis as well as several Flemish inland terminals.
